In this suggestive (and slightly out of focus) VIS image, taken by the NASA - Mars Odyssey Orbiter on February, 13th, 2005, and during its 14.057th orbit around the Red Planet, we can see a (truly small) portion of Hebes Chasma (which is, as we wrote in the APOD of October, 5, 2014, an isolated Chasma (---> abyss) - actually, a completely closed Depression in the Surface of Mars, with no Outflows to the nearby Echus Chasma to the West, Perrotin Crater to the South/West, or the Great Valles Marineris Canyon System to the South).
Hebes Chasma is located just North of the Great Valles Marineris Canyon System and it is centered at 1° South Latitude and 76° West Longitude, just between the Martian Equator and the Great Valles Marineris Canyon System, to the East of the Volcanic District of Tharsis. Its maximum extents are approx. 320 Km (such as about 198,72 miles) from East to West, approx. 130 Km (about 80,73 miles) from North to South, and 5 to 6 Km (such as about 3,1 to 3,7 miles) in depth.

This image (which is an Original Mars Odyssey Orbiter falsely colored and Map Projected frame published on the NASA - Planetary Photojournal with the ID n. PIA 20084) has been additionally processed, magnified to aid the visibility of the details, extra-contrast enhanced and sharpened, Gamma corrected and then re-colorized in Absolute Natural Colors (such as the colors that a normal human eye would actually perceive if someone were onboard the NASA - Mars Odyssey Orbiter and then looked down, towards the Surface of Mars), by using an original technique created - and, in time, dramatically improved - by the Lunar Explorer Italia Team.
