This image shows one of the first views from the NASA - Curiosity Rover, which landed on Mars the evening of Aug. 5 PDT (early morning hours Aug. 6 EDT) of the AD 2012. The frame was taken through a "fisheye" wide-angle lens on one of the Rover's Hazard-Avoidance Cameras (HazCams). These Engineering Cameras, as you can easily understand by looking at the way the Martian Surface is seen, are located at the Rover's Base. As planned, the early images are taken at lower resolution; larger and way more defined color images are expected later in the week when the Rover's Mast, carrying the High-Resolution Cameras, shall be deployed.

This frame has been additionally processed and colorized in Absolute Natural Colors (such as the colors that a normal human eye would actually perceive if someone were on the Surface of Mars, near the NASA - Mars Exploration Rover - Mars Laboratory "Curiosity", and then looked towards the Horizon and Sky), by using an original technique created - and, in time, dramatically improved - by the Lunar Explorer Italia Team.
